Gokyo Trek is another pathway to reach the Everest Base Camp and offers an alternative to the conventional route. This trail encompasses the fantastic views of the Everest and Himalayan ranges along with significant attributes like the Ngozumpa Glacier, Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Gyachung and Makalu.
A flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the most beautiful flights in Nepal, marks the beginning of this trek. Trekkers can then trek into Phadking and visit the various monasteries present in the region. An ascend upwards to Namche Bazzar from Phadking provides crossings over Dudh Koshi River and passage through villages like Benkar, Monjo, Jorsale, Chautara(Top Danda)along with exquisite views of Mt. Thamserku, Kwangde Peak, Kusum Kangaru, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache etc. Acclimatization is absolutely necessary at this point for a day in Namche Bazaar after which a trek is required to reach Phorse village which is under the snow dusted peaks of Tawoche and Cholaste.
Namche to Phorse incorporates the superb view of mountains, close up view of Thamserku, occasional views of animals like the musk deer and the Himalayan Thar, the village of Sansa followed by the Mongla Pass offering glimpses of mountains such as the Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawoche and Mt. Khumbila and finally the Phortse village.
Trekking through Dole, Labharma and Luza, to reach Macchermo is accompanied by empowering views of the Cho Oyu, Kangtega, Kyaio Ri, Phari Lapche etc. From Macchermo, trekkers pass through Chortene and Pangka with lakes like Lakes Longpongo and Taboche Tsho. Gokyo village is next to the beautiful Gokyo Lake.
Gokyo Ri is the viewpoint offering excellent views of the Everest as well as a series of six lakes in the Everest region and can be reached by a climb via the Gokyo village. Socundrel’s viewpoint is home to mesmerizing views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and the Everest after which, an ascend upwards brings the Cho Oyu Base Camp. This base camp offers spectacular views of the largest glacier in the world, the Ngazumpa, and marks the end to the Gokyo Valley Trek.
