Tour Overview

Kanchenjunga Base Camp & Selele Base CampTrek introduces you to the eastern region of Nepal. The word “Kanchenjunga” in Nepali is depicted as a shining disc. The renowned Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world, is one of the “Five Treasures of the Great Snow.” It is situated in northeastern Nepal and borders Sikkim, India. The alluring panorama of Kanchenjunga is visible from India, Bhutan, and Tibet.

Kanchenjunga region is regarded as one of Nepal’s top travel destinations. The Kanchenjunga Conservation area is one of the journey’s highlights. It covers an area of 2035 sq. km. The region is abundant in flora and fauna, including snow leopard, red panda, black Himalayan bear, musk deer, and other species.

The base camp path offers a diversity of terrain, including river valleys, glacial moraine, stony hills, alpine highlands, and tropical woods. Trekkers are treated to stunning views of mighty mountains during the route, including Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8481m), and other peaks. Because Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung live in the Kanchenjunga area, travellers can learn about their cultures and way of life.

The less-travelled Kanchenjunga region is home to a stunning variety, ranging from rhododendron, chestnut, and oak woods to the glaciated base camp. However, you need a local guide to travel in the Kanchenjunga region because the area is restricted. Additionally, the required permits must be obtained by at least two pedestrians.

Despite having stunning natural beauty, the Kanchenjunga region is not yet a famous tourist attraction because of its isolation and lack of infrastructure. Regardless, tea houses have started popping up in towns and other convenient places in recent years.

The journey to the base camp of the 3rd highest mountain of the world starts with a short flight to Suketar from Kathmandu. We will then trek through dense rhododendron and oak forests to reach Lamile Bhanjyang. Trekking through Torotan, Tseram, Ramche will lead us to Mirgin-La which offers the spectacular views of snowcapped mountains. Trekking ahead for a short duration will take us to the final destination of our trip, The Kanchenjunga Base Camp. We will then trek ahead and reach to Selele Pass which is a challenging and slippery trekking trail of our journey. Crossing this pass will be a bit challenging as trekkers should trek through the icy and risky trekking trails. One can do the sightseeing of unique and dramatic landscapes along with some of the highest mountain ranges of the world through the base camp of this beautiful mountain.

Best Time to Trek

The best times to visit the Kanchenjunga region are from early March to mid-May (Spring) and from October to late November (Autumn).

The vibrant Rhododendrons blooming over the hills below the enthralling Himalayas put on a magnificent display in the spring. Similar to how the weather improves, the atmosphere becomes more relaxed, the sights are breathtaking throughout the autumn, and the green valleys and forests appear more natural.

The rainy season, which lasts from late May through mid to late September, is something we advise avoiding. The only activity during the winter is camping, which will be quite cold. Many locals will relocate to lower land, and tea houses will close during this time of the year.

Tour Highlights

  • Trek to both Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar
  • Cross the Cho La and ascend Gokyo Ri
  • Excellent acclimatisation and highly experienced Trekking Guide
  • Four-star hotel and time to relax and take in the sights of Kathmandu
