Sailung Trek Overview

If you’re looking for a short and easy trek, look no further. Sailung Trek is an adventurous trek suitable for both experienced trekkers and beginners. It’s a great way to spend time with family or friends that doesn’t require any special gear or experience.

The terms “Sai” and “lung” are combined to form the word “sailung.” Sai means hundred, and lung means windy hills. Sailung, thus, translates to “a hundred windy hills.” One can conclude the destination’s beauty from the name alone.

Regular mountain trekkers tend to explore less of the Sailung region. It is located on the boundary of the Ramechhap and Dolakha districts. The Sailung trek is intended for individuals who want to explore the wildlife and local culture in Nepal’s hills below 3200 meters above sea level.

The Sailung trail is easy to follow and takes you through some of the most beautiful views on this planet, from taking in the alluring vistas of the Himalayas to discovering the culture and history of the Tamang and Sherpa communities.

Along the Sailung trek, you come across the breathtaking vistas of Mt. Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Ganesh Himal, and more. Moreover, the trail leads you through charming local towns, terraced farms, lush forests, rivers, and steep hills.

Sailung trek starts with sightseeing some of the famous places of Kathmandu. We will then take a scenic drive to Dolakha. The Sailung Trek starts from Dolakha, and then we will trek via many ancient villages and dense rhododendron forests to reach Gurase Bhanjyang.  Trekking ahead will take us to Chaubas Himal, where we will do an excursion and take a rest day as well. Trekking through Bholung and Bhakunde Besi will take us to Sailung village, the final destination of our journey. We will then trek down to Palanchowk and drive back to Kathmandu to end our Sailung trek journey.

Short Explanation of the Trip

The trip to Sailung begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Mude Bazaar. From here, the trek advances through local villages like Khola Kharka, Dhormba Gompa, Gurase Bhanjyang, etc. You pass through dense rhododendron, pine, and oak forests along the way.

As you continue the trek, you pass through Bholung, which eventually leads to Sailung village. After spending a lovely time in Sailung, the tour proceeds to Palanchowk, and the trip ends with a drive back to Kathmandu.

Best Time To Do Sailung Trek

Sailung Trek is accessible at any time of the year. However, if you want to enjoy it to its fullest, autumn and spring are the best trek choices. During these times of the year, the weather is pleasant and stable, making travel more accessible and convenient. Additionally, the air is more transparent, allowing for magnificent distant mountain vistas under clear skies.

Likewise, the Sailung trek in winter is not much of a hassle. Winter can be challenging, but it’s not the worst time to trek. Besides the cold temperature, you can enjoy the true beauty of the trek.

On the other hand, the Sailung trek in monsoon can be challenging due to frequent rainfall. Floods and landslides are likely to occur. However, you won’t find it when travelling during other seasons. The monsoon has its charm.
